For the Beta launch of Infinite Crisis, we depicted debuff statuses with realistic looking particle effects. While the decision allowed for a more imersive experience, it was at the expense of clarity. With multple effects going off at any moment, players reported an inability to deterimine when they were being debuffed by an opposing player.

I created an icon system that was graphically bold, to make it as obvious as possible that a negative status effect was being applied.
